1983 TAMA Swingstar 5 Year Maintenance & Service.

Taking advantage of the holiday season, I decided to pull my 1983 TAMA Swingstar out of the rehearsal room for a 5 year service.

Main reason for the service was to replace the swivel nuts with new ones. Some of the 41 year old swivel nuts were no longer staying snug and in tune.

All the hardware was cleaned and white lithium grease reapplied to all threaded areas, (which it desperately needed).

While I'm at it I decided to give the wrap on the shells some protection using CarPro's Essence Plus; a unique SiO2 nano coating designed to repair and enhance ceramic coatings in motor vehicles, but work well on drum parts. It's made from a blend of ceramic coat repair agents, high gloss quartz resins, and hydrophobic nanoparticles.

It has NO abrasive properties, and any correction to improve marring, scratches are from the Shinemate Blue medium Diamond Pad used.

Using CarPro's Essence Plus and the blue pad gave the appearance of the wrap an enhanced glossy and haze-free finish. In addition, the SiO2 protection helps withstand environmental elements, such as UV rays, chemicals, and abrasion. Also repels sweat, water and other nasty liquids that may land on the drums.
