Who I am
I’m Ian Piggott — an independent publisher and domain developer under Farming Domains (ABN 66 786 225 704), based on the Gold Coast. If you arrived from a park guide, a light rail or river site, or from nationalparksguide.com.au, this page is for that moment of “who’s behind this?”
I hold and develop domain names and a growing regional portfolio of Australian websites built around real places and topics — since acquiring the first domain and launching a site in 2001. By day I run computer sales and service businesses. I’m not a government agency: I’m a working technician and long-time web operator who ships real sites with a real byline.
Farming Domains — portfolio, not just one brand
Farming Domains is two things that sit together: a marketplace for premium domain names, and the public hub for active websites and projects. The live portfolio is grouped much as on the Farming Domains portfolio page— including:
- National park visitor sites — independent, unofficial guides for parks across Australia, with National Parks Guide as the traveller-facing hub. This network is a long-term focus: deep single-park guides people can plan with, never pretending to be official parks agencies.
- Light rail & transport topic sites — place-and-topic websites such as Gold Coast, Newcastle, and Canberra light rail (and related projects), held and developed as regional information properties.
- River sites — geographic river names developed as live regional/tourism sites (for example Derwent, Goulburn, Mitchell, Lachlan).
- Locality & community — towns and places with real local writing and stewardship (including Helensburgh and other community-focused properties).
- Technology & brand projects — product and tech sites such as privatellm.au (PrivateLLM), plus the Farming Domains and personal hubs themselves.
- Education — vibecoding.au helps beginners learn how to build with AI in plain language: paths, prompts, practice, and avoiding the “money trap” of tools without understanding.
That list is a summary, not a full inventory — the authoritative index of active projects is always farmingdomains.com/portfolio. Premium names for sale sit under the Domains section of the same site.
- farmingdomains.com — hub, domains for sale, about the business
- farmingdomains.com/portfolio — active websites & projects
- nationalparksguide.com.au — national parks guide network hub
- goldcoastlightrail.com.au — example light rail portfolio site
- privatellm.au — PrivateLLM (tech portfolio project)
- vibecoding.au — learning site for building with AI (education)
National park guides (flagship network)
Within that portfolio, the national park visitor guides are a major, deliberate build: deep single-park sites (walks, day-trip realism, stays, tours context, honest decision frameworks) and a hub at National Parks Guide. The goal is long-term: a substantial, trustworthy set of independent Australian park guides — useful for first-timers and return visitors, never official.
On those guides we say who publishes them, that we are not affiliated with the relevant parks agency unless stated otherwise, and that live track status, fees, bookings, and closures must be checked on official park pages before you travel. We don’t invent open/closed claims. Advertising and affiliates, where they appear, are disclosed; park fees and official bookings are never “affiliated products.”
How I work on portfolio sites
Whether the topic is a park walk, a light rail corridor, a river region, or a small town, the habit is the same: use publicly available sources, write for real decisions, and say when something is uncertain. Free (or ad-supported) place sites only work if people know the source and the limits.
That standard didn’t start with parks. It’s the same habit as diagnosing a machine on the bench or writing local history: follow the evidence, explain it in plain language, and don’t sell a fix (or a “must-do” trip) you can’t stand behind.
Track record (why I’m not a shell)
Credibility isn’t a slogan. It’s years of work you can still check:
Computer sales & service
By day I run two Gold Coast computer sales and service businesses — Computerlife (computerlife.com.au) and Gold Coast Computers (goldcoastcomputers.com.au). More than 25 years in ICT on the Gold and Tweed Coast: real customers, real faults, domains and web when the job needs it. That’s the unglamorous proof that I ship work that has to function.
Helensburgh local history
I grew up in Helensburgh, NSW, on the Illawarra escarpment. In 2012 I launched Helensburgh.com.au to write the place properly — coal and rail history, pioneers, the Metropolitan Glow Worm Tunnel, bush and cliffs around 2508 — not a thin town brochure. That project was shortlisted at the inaugural Illawarra News Awards (2013) for community-building. Same family of skills as the rest of the place portfolio: care about a real locality, check facts, stick with it. On this site: launch note.
This site
ianpiggott.com is also my personal site — “My Own Slice of the Web” — for builds, notes, and the odd game. Home life is Gold Coast with my wife and Ollie, our cavoodle. Outside work you’ll find drums and music gear, tech experiments, whisky first-pours, and car detailing. That’s the rest of the person, not a substitute for the publishing record above.
